1WWill the middle and elementary students be in the same part of the school?
No. Elementary classrooms will be on the first floor of the building and middle school classrooms will be on the second floor. There will be assigned restrooms for elementary students only. Kimberly Blair, Director of Elementary Education, recently served as the principal of Harts Pre-K – 8 in Lincoln County and has experience working in this type of school setting. She is working closely with the principals of LES and LMS to ensure students are with their peers and are always supervised during the day.
2. Are both LES and LMS on remote learning the week of February 23 – 27, 2026?
Yes. To prepare the classrooms for the LES and LMS students, both schools will be on remote learning for the week of February 23 – 27. Students are to complete the 5th snow packet lesson during this time. It is also a great opportunity to read daily and practice math facts.
3. What about after school and special events that were scheduled for this week?
Each principal will use our messaging system and the schools' social media pages to inform parents and students of the status of these activities. If you have specific questions, feel free to call Logan Middle School (304-752-1804) until the lines for the elementary school are transferred.
4. How will the drop-off and pick-up lines work in the morning and afternoon?
We are working on the plan for drop-off and pick-up and it should be available later this week. Since LES and LMS have different start and end times, we will be able to stagger the arrival and dismissal of each school. We will have a video of the process available later this week and additional staff will be on site the first few days to assist parents and students with the new routine.
5. Where will the elementary students go for recess?
LMS has a playground on campus and recess times will be scheduled for LES students there.
6. How will breakfast and lunch times work?
There are many options for breakfast and lunch we are considering and there is additional space available for an elementary only lunch area. Since the schools start the day at different times, middle school students will have already had breakfast and be in their classrooms on the second floor when the elementary students arrive for the day. As the schedules are finalized, we will update the information.
7. What if my child has an appointment and I need to drop them off after school has started or pick them up early?
The principals and secretaries for LES and LMS will be in the main office of the building. Parents of students attending LES or LMS can enter through the front of the building and report to the office to sign students in or out. We will be transferring the LES phone lines to operate at LMS as soon as possible so you can speak with the LES office staff directly when you call.
8. My child takes medication during the school day at LES. Do I need to send new medication for my child?
Shortly after the building was cleared to enter after the fire, LES school nurse Timi Weese secured all student medication and medical records from the building. She will be contacting parents this week with additional information and directions.
9. When can teachers go into the LES building to obtain personal belongings?
We are working with the fire marshal and cleaning company to determine when teachers can safely enter the building. Principal Hillary Nelson will update teachers on Monday, February 23.
10. What about personal items that belong to students?
We will consult with the fire marshal and the cleaning/restoration company regarding the best way to return those items to students. Updates will follow.
11. Will there be textbooks and school supplies available to our students?
We are placing an order for classroom materials for students (paper, pencils, crayons, etc.) that should arrive this week. We are checking the warehouse and other elementary schools in the county for extra textbooks and workbooks to use in the school. Each Logan County school is adopting a classroom at LES to provide extra materials for bulletin boards, learning stations, and books for classroom libraries. This will allow LES teachers time to make the new classrooms feel like home for the students. Educators in Mingo and Wyoming counties have reached out to us and plan to drop off items to the teachers on Wednesday.
12. Will LES students get an opportunity to visit the new classrooms at LMS before returning to school on March 2, 2026?
Yes, we are planning an Open-House event for Friday, February 27, 2026, for parents and students of LES. We will be sending out additional information when the details are finalized.
